Job Overview

With Mike, work doesn't need to feel like work. One day you might be pottering around the garden sowing seeds, the next you might be off looking for pirate treasures and bottles washed up onshore.

Contract: Part-time, 12hrs per week

Essential Requirements:

  • Driver essential who is willing to use their own car.
  • Must be comfortable with supporting with personal hygiene e.g. bathing support.

Mike enjoys a good chat, listening to music, shopping, gardening, treasure hunting, playing computer games and watching classic 80’s cartoons. Some days might involve treasure hunting or completing a mission so having someone in the team who can drive helps Mike visit places that public transport doesn’t easily reach, opening up more adventures and opportunities.

Mike is autistic and has a learning disability. He sometimes needs support to understand the “why” and the “how” of things. Creativity and curiosity really matter. The team have created a personalised newspaper to help him explore ideas, think about his health, and try new experiences.
Patience is really important too. Mike enjoys talking and may return to the same conversations, questions or favourite subjects more than once, so we need someone who can stay patient, interested and respectful rather than becoming frustrated or dismissive.

We’re looking for someone who is kind, curious and willing to learn, someone who wants to make a genuine difference and feel proud of the work they do. You’ll join a supportive team, receive a thorough induction, and have shifts planned in advance to support a healthy work/life balance.
In this role you won’t just be providing care, you’ll be helping someone live a richer, more independent, and more fulfilling life. And in return, you’ll be part of a team that values creativity, collaboration, and genuine human connection.

Ideally you will:
•Have a good sense of humour.
•Be highly self-motivated and be willing to learn and develop.
•Be patient and comfortable with repetition
•Have a passion for the work we do.
•Be a great communicator for Mike and the team.
•Be forward thinking, willing to try new ideas and approaches.
•Have similar interests or be sympathetic to Mikes.
•Have good computer skills.
•Be a team player

Benefits:

  • We reward our staff with competitive salaries
  • We offer an Award Winning Pension Scheme
  • We have a company sick pay scheme
  • Excellent annual leave allowance, including top up pay
  • Critical Illness cover, reassurance when you need it the most
  • Life Insurance, reassurance for your family when they need it the most
  • A really good mandatory induction
  • Ongoing high quality training
  • Career development opportunities
  • A real chance to make a difference to someone's life
